man snatching

Have you ever been told by your mother, that while you have cute clothes, they aren't "man snatchers"?  Mom and I have a special relationship.  In Relief Society on Sunday the lesson was on forgiveness and sometimes we hold grudges.  And I thought to myself "yeah remember that time when you were in high school and your mom told you that you were average looking.  And that other girls were getting the guys because they had something more. Yeah I remember that time." Now I may be skewing that, but you get the gist.  Frequently mother has voiced her opinion about my appearance claiming me to be a project that needed highlights and contacts.  Or that when I dyed my hair brown (while to my face she told me she loved it) at a later date when I was blond again, that she had hated my hair that way.
Well her new words of wisdom are that a number of my church outfits are not "man snatchers."  Actual conversation:
Mom: Shelby you need to wear a man snatching outfit.

Shelby: What do you mean?

M: Well some of your outfits...well they're cute and women appreciate them, but... well you know you're little Norwegian dress it's cute but guys aren't attracted to it.

Shauna: Yeah Shelby like your yellow flower dress.  It's adorable, but it's not a man snatcher.  You can wear that after you get a boyfriend, but when you're in pursuit maybe you should wear something else.

Now before Shauna gets upset, they both did voice their opinions of other cute outfits that look good on me and are "man" appropriate.  It comes from a place of love, I know, but sometimes it's harsh love.  So men beware, you're about to snatched by the power of the pencil skirt.

Ouch! I have 4 sisters and mom...they've never been that vocal about my looks or attire! I'm sure they hated lots of my outfits, but wow! I'm sorry! :-( I think you look cute all the time and if it doesn't snatch a man, he's clearly not the man worth snatching!
